History LGM International Inc. is a private medical device manufacturing firm founded in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in early 2002. It's founders are seasoned medical device professionals with extensive backgrounds in R&D, project management, production, distribution, quality systems and sales and marketing. While all US citizens they also developed over their careers extensive knowledge of the diverse and uniquely distinct various international markets. Their knowledge base included experience in the clinical laboratory, the practice of care for various disease states and the complex socio-economic factors impacting the medical standard of care worldwide. All of this diverse knowledge was utilized to design a product line that would have worldwide appeal. Clinical cytology, while a fundamental core technology of Pathology, had begun to undergo its first significant technological change with the advent of liquid-based cytology (LBC) in the early 1990's. These first generation technologies enabled clinical specimens to be cleaned of various artifacts and debris to permit the clear observation of cells and cellular morphology. With this clearer analysis, accuracy sensitivity improved and fewer specimens needed to be discarded as unusable ultimately providing improved efficiency. However, first generation technology suffered from an inherently high cost per test due to product design (i.e. plastic devices, filters, vacuums). These disposables were coupled with "instruments" which limited flexibility and created more labor then labor release, coupled with the need for capital investment. With Liqui-PREP, the first 2nd generation cytology system, we replaced plastic devices & filters with simple separation chemistry all designed to run on standard laboratory centrifuge.
