Overview

The Field of cytology involves the preparation of cells collected from a variety of clinical specimens, Liqui-Prep is a second generation specimen preparation technology which enables the lab to remove blood and mucus from clinical specimens to allow for clear unobstructed analysis by microscopy by a trained Cytotechnologist or Pathologist

Obviously, not all specimens  require pretreatment.  Two kit formats have been developed to allow the account to choose the most cost effective option.  The Liqui-Prep Cytology Processing Kit is designed for processing those specimens which do not require pre-treatment.  The lp Special Processing Kit contains a Cleaning Solution which allows pre-treatment due to blood or mucus.

For those specimens requiring extra processing, the Liqui-Prep LYTIC Reagent provides digestion of heavy mucus and lysis of specimens with large volumes of blood.

SPECIMEN CLEANING

After mixing, the specimen is poured onto the Liqui-PREPTM Cleaning solution, which, after centrifugation removes mucous and other non-diagnostic materials.

The Liqui-PREPTM System is based upon a series of proprietary chemistry approaches, which addresses the issues of specimen collection and transport, specimen cleaning and cellular adhesion to a microscope slide.

Unlike other liquid cytology systems, no special equipment or special disposable device is required. All that is required to use Liqui-PREPTM is a standard laboratory centrifuge, vortex and volumetric pipette. If labor release is an issue, the simple Liqui-PREPTM protocol can be easily automated with any standard robotic platform for slide application.

Since no special filter and vacuums are required and no unique disposable is required, Liqui-PREPTM has a very simple protocol. One important feature in utilizing LGM encapsulation technology is that all cells that are collected, are preserved. There is no need for concern about clogged filters or cells lost as reported in other liquid cytology devices.

The Liqui-PREPTM system has two basic formats, the Liqui-PREPTM Cytology Processing Kit is designed for clean specimens such as fine needle aspirates, CNS, urine’s, etc. The Liqui-PREPTM Special Processing Kit contains a Cleaning Solution which should be used on bloody specimens, mucus, cellular debris from specimens. Both kits have been put together in a variety of formats to meet the needs of different laboratories and address cost sensitivities.

All Liqui-PREPTM reagents have been formulated below international standards for HAZMAT, which will result in a significant reduction in shipping expenses.
